Timothy Baptist Church was originally called Trinity Lettish Evangelical Free Church built for the Latvian community in Roxbury, In the early 1900’s Roxbury reportedly had the largest Latvian community in North America.*

History

The lot was owned by the Trinity Lettish Evangelical Free Church in 1915 but construction of the church did not begin until the 1930’s. This church was the only new church built by Latvians in the United States. According to former residents, the first murder victim of Albert De Salvo, the Boston Strangler was a parishioner.

Architecture

The building has a crenellated Gothic style porch, buttresses on the sides, pointed arched windows and a small gabled apse.

Current Use

The church was bought by the Timothy Baptist Church in the mid 1970’s.
